OUTLINE
Angola: FARA meets a vital need for drinking water
Drinking water supply, water treatment and hygiene education
As well as guaranteeing the supply of drinking water, the project also aims to treat river water, train local people in rural water management and raise awareness of the importance of hygiene. With this in mind, the adoption of The Drop® eco-sanitary tap is of crucial importance. At present, none of the municipality’s four communes has a drinking water treatment and supply system. This project is therefore an innovative initiative, marking the start of a change in mentality with regard to living conditions in rural areas.

ACHIEVEMENTS
- CONSTRUCTION OF A WATER CATCHMENT CHAMBER: The main objective of the project was successfully achieved with the installation of a water catchment chamber in the Lueka river. This infrastructure has made it possible to establish a reliable source of water for the village of Mbanza-Kinzau, thereby significantly meeting a key need of the population.
- DRINKING WATER SUPPLY: The project successfully supplied drinking water to the village of Mbanza-Kinzau through the installation of 3 treadle pumps. Thanks to the water collection chamber and its transportation to the village, the inhabitants now have access to a clean source of water, helping to improve their health and quality of life.
- RIVER WATER TREATMENT: As well as supplying water, the project has also achieved its objective of treating the water in the Lueka river. This treatment process guarantees the quality of drinking water, meeting the health standards required for human consumption.
- TRAINING IN WATER MANAGEMENT: Another significant success lies in training the local population in the management of drinking water in a rural context. The residents of Mbanza-Kinzau have acquired essential skills to ensure sustainable use of the new infrastructure, thereby strengthening their autonomy in managing their water supply.
- HYGIENE AWARENESS: The project succeeded in raising awareness of the importance of hygiene, by promoting the use of The Drop® eco-sanitary tap. This awareness-raising has helped to improve hygiene practices within the community, thereby reducing the risk of water-related illnesses.
