RDC: our visible contributions to water and sanitation in Sankuru

The DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo) possesses more than 50% of all water resources in the African continent. However, successive crises and low levels of public investment in the improvement of related infrastructures are creating difficulties in accessing high quality water in quantities necessary  for a significant proportion of the population. In the province of Sankuru, in particular, where the infrastructures are very  out-dated, 77.7% of the population have only a very limited access to an unprotected, and therefore potentially contaminated, water supply. Indeed, poverty in the province is multi-faceted and the amount of defecation in the open air is very high.

To improve the situation, we work in partnership with The Future of the Children of Sankuru and with various other agencies in Kinshasa. By collaborating  as a united group, we aim to improve the water, hygiene and sanitation situation in two schools situated in Minga and Ketshekama, two very remote settlements of the province. In addition, we  contribute to the renovation of two schools, allowing  pupils to have access to decent educational facilities.
